SAMPLE PROGRAM
Kindergarten - 2nd Grade Kindergarteners, first graders and second graders will focus mainly on oral activities. For example, during snack the teachers will refer to the food in their Spanish names, and talk to the kids in basic Spanish with English to assist with comprehension. During the "intensive Spanish interaction", we'll actually be teaching children specific words and phrases. We vary the schedule according to the energy and needs of each group and each day. Adults Adults receive more instruction in grammar, although the emphasis is still on oral conversation and skills you need to speak to someone as you arrive in a Spanish-speaking country. The skills of each class group direct the conversation. We will split into different groups if there is a large difference in skills. |
"Children who have studied a foreign language perform better on standardized tests and tests of basic skills in English, math and social studies than do those who have not participated in such a program."
