DETAILS What's provided? Instruction and food as listed for each class--and lots of energy, enthusiasm and fun! Expectations? We start with basic conversational skills, words that are useful and phrases that are fun and necessary. We review each time. We challenge the student to remember what we learned the last time we met, and build on skills he already has. We add in grammar, verb conjugation and written work as the students are able. (Adults definitely write more than kindergarteners!) How will you teach this? We see the classes as an introduction to the language in a fun, positive way through a lot of social interaction and language usage—not a lot of time sitting in desks completing worksheets. We have lots of conversations, lots of asking and answering questions, and lots of games and songs (particularly for children). If someone seems ready to learn more, we'll give him or her more vocabulary. If the child does not want to talk at all in "different words", he'll get less benefit—but will still probably remember more than he lets on! What level are these classes? We take people at all levels, and since it is mostly oral skills, the teachers just adjust to the individual's level. We push those who know more--even going into only Spanish if the person is ready for it--and help along those who are completely new. In the case of adults, we will split classes as needed. Call to discuss your individual situation. We want to learn a different language, do you have plans to do other languages? We are VERY happy to say that as of summer 2007, we are offering Spanish and French for children, plus Spanish, French, Italian and Arabic for the adults. Let us know if you want something else! |
